That data was calculated from the Child Care and Development Fund. AIAN stands for American Indian/Alaskan Native and NHPI stands for Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander.

Kern County

Black infants are born nearly 1.5 times more often than other races. Kern’s rate of premature Black infants is nearly 1.2 times higher than the state.
Black infants are born underweight nearly 2 times more than often than other races. Kern’s rate of underweight Black infants is nearly 1.2 times higher than the state.
Black infants are 1.5 times more likely to die than infants of other races.
Black women are nearly 4 times more likely to die from maternal complications than other races. Kern County’s rate of Black maternal deaths is 1.5 times higher than the State.

California

More than 12% of Black infants in California are born prematurely.

Black infants are born underweight nearly 2 times more often than other races in California.

Black infants are about 1.5 times more likely to die than infants of other races in California.
Black women are about 3 times more likely to die from maternal complications than other races in California.
